Nobody job hunts at a steady pace for twelve months. You apply to fifteen roles in two weeks, go quiet while interviews run, then either sign an offer or start another sprint. Our pricing didn't reflect that. Evalo.Match was sold as a monthly subscription, and that model charged people for time they weren't using it.
So we replaced it. Evalo.Match now runs on credits: one credit, one action, no recurring bill. This post covers why we made the change, how credits work, and what happens if you were a subscriber.
Job searches come in bursts, not billing cycles
A typical search for a backend or DevOps role looks like this: an intense week of tailoring your CV to a handful of job descriptions, a few cover letters, then days or weeks of waiting on recruiters and doing technical interviews. When you do use the tool, you use it a lot. In between, you barely touch it.
A monthly subscription fits products you use every day, like an IDE or a cloud console. For a job search it creates two bad outcomes. Either you pay for a month you barely used, or you hit a monthly cap right when you're in the middle of applying.
Subscriptions with limits were the worst of both
Our plans came with per-action limits: a set number of CV tailorings and cover letters per month, shown as counters like "3/5 tailorings used". In practice that meant two different meters, two different ways to run out, and a plan page you had to read carefully to work out what you were actually buying.
It also made people ration. If you see five tailorings left, you think twice before tailoring your CV for a role that's only a 60% match. That's the opposite of what the product is for. Checking how your CV fits a role you're unsure about is exactly when the match analysis is most useful.
Simple, Transparent Credit-Based Pricing
With Evalo, you only pay for what you use. Our pricing is straightforward: 1 credit = 1 action. Whether you're analyzing how well your CV matches a job, tailoring your CV for a specific role, generating a cover letter, or checking your CV for improvements, each action costs just 1 credit. For a deeper evaluation, CV Match Check + Insights costs 3 credits, providing additional insights to help you strengthen your application. There are no subscriptions, automatic renewals, or recurring charges.
How credits work
Every new account starts with 5 free trial credits, valid for 3 days. That's enough to upload your CV, run a match against a real job description, tailor your CV for it and generate a cover letter, so you can judge the result before paying anything.
After that you buy a credit pack when you need one. Purchased credits stay valid for a year from the purchase date, so a pack bought for this search still covers the next round of applications if you change jobs again in a few months. If you hold both trial and purchased credits, the ones that expire first are used first, so trial credits don't go to waste.
Credit packs
- S — 10 credits for €4.99 + VAT (EU)
- M — 25 credits for €9.99 + VAT (EU)
- L — 50 credits for €19.99 + VAT (EU)
- Purchased credits are valid for 12 months; payment is one-time through Stripe
Some things don't cost credits
Uploading and parsing your CV is free. So is the job tracker (CRM), which used to be a paid-plan feature. It's now available to every user regardless of balance, because tracking where you applied shouldn't depend on how many credits you have left.
Every action that does cost a credit now shows a "1 credit" badge on its button, and the app tells you before you submit if your balance is zero, instead of letting you wait for a result that won't come.
What happens to existing subscriptions
We're cancelling all active subscriptions at the switch, so nobody gets billed again. Every existing user receives a one-time grant of 50 credits, valid for a year from the migration date. That's the same as our largest pack.
Your CVs, jobs, match results and cover letters stay where they are. Nothing about your data changes, only how usage is counted.
The trade-off we accepted
Subscriptions give a company predictable revenue. Credits don't. We're betting that a model matching how people actually search for jobs earns more trust, and more return visits on the next job change, than a recurring charge people forget to cancel.
There's a trade-off for you too: if you're a heavy user running dozens of matches a week, you'll think about cost per action more than you did with a flat plan. The pack prices are set so that a full application, meaning match, tailored CV and cover letter, costs about €1.20 on the M or L pack.
Tip: Spend credits where they change the outcome
Run the match analysis first. If the gap analysis shows you're missing must-have technologies the role can't do without, skip tailoring and move on. Spend your tailoring and cover letter credits on the roles where you're a strong match and the CV just needs to show it.
